Firefighters continue to work to extinguish the blaze.
The USS Bonhomme Richard continued to burn on Monday as firefighters attempted to put out the blaze that has injured at least 57 people. The ship, docked in San Diego harbor, is not holding any artillery aboard, and its millions of gallons of fuel are currently “well below” any heat source according to Rear Admiral Philip Sobeck.
A total of 160 sailors and officers were on board when an explosion erupted, sending smoke and flames into the air. All members of the crew have been accounted for. Seventeen sailors and four civilians were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
